What are their personalities like?
They both love to greet customers. They are very affectionate and love lots of attention. Poppy is a busy dog. She thinks her role is to chase the birds. Maddie will go all day running around with the horses. I have another job and Maddie is very devoted to me. She will say, that when I’m at work, she has a rostered day off. She barks a lot and is a happy dog.
Where do they sleep?
They sleep in special dog beds in the garage with their jackets on. They are very spoilt.
What do you feed them?
A variety of dog foods, dry and canned food, but they do like spaghetti bolognaise.
Do they chase anything else?
They will chase foxes, rabbits and mice.
How do they get on with other animals?
They are really good with other animals. They are very protective of the property if other dogs come on the farm with our customers.
Have they had any accidents?
Yes, they did get into some rat bait late last year. We had them both on tablets. One just tasted it and spat it out — that’s how we found out. We didn’t know which one ate it so we had to treat them both. It was very expensive.
How much time do you spend with them?
Every day from dawn to dusk unless I’m at my other job. Between me and my partner Milton they are down at the stables all the time.
Do they like to travel?
They love it. They love it in the car, Maddie loves the RTV. Poppy likes the ute and has to sit in the cab rather than the back of the ute. We have a four-wheeler but they don’t like that.
What would you do without them?
I’d be lost without them. I’d dearly miss them. They say dogs are a man’s best friend and these two really are. They are my mates.
